TIMBER FRAME OR STEEL FRAME CONSTRUCTION

Which is better?

There are all kinds of ways to build a house, but which is better? A house with timber frame construction or steel frame construction?

Increasingly steel frame construction seen as a better alternative on building a timber-frame house. This is because it combines the advantages of HSB with those of steel: lighter in weight, more dimensionally stable thanks to shrink-proof materials, less sensitive to climatic influences and resistant to pests and fungus.

Timber frame construction is a sustainable option as timber is an all-natural material. This also means that the material is more alive. Wood can shrink or expand, but it is also more susceptible to moisture and pests. At the same time, wood is a lot heavier and thus more difficult to handle during the installation process. Wood is strong, but not as strong as steel. This ensures that the possibilities with the material are limited.

The strength of steel frame construction

Steel frame construction is precisely known for its enormous strength. The material is strong and can therefore support a lot of weight. Moreover, steel does not shrink, which prevents the building from slowly deforming. It is also incredibly easy to work with steel frame construction. Steel profiles are lightweight and therefore easy to assemble. Ideal to build a hull house to be built. The material hardly wears out, is recyclable and the lifespan of the building is considerably longer than for timber frame construction. It can therefore be said that steel frame construction is more sustainable than timber frame construction.

So it goes without saying that at Ripstaal Steel Framing, we only work with steel frame construction. This way, we can always guarantee you the best quality.
